Prince Harry to Receive Enhanced Security for Upcoming Solo Trip to New York
Prince Harry is set to visit New York later this month, where he will receive additional security, according to a report by Express UK. While Harry prepares for his solo trip, Meghan Markle and their children, Archie and Lilibet, will remain at their home in Montecito.
Harry’s visit to New York coincides with the UN General Assembly (UNGA) High-Level Week and Climate Week, which start on September 22, as confirmed by his spokesperson. During his stay, he is expected to attend the Diana Award event and engage in activities with organizations such as African Parks, the HALO Trust, and Travalyst.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) has announced plans to increase security for Harry during his trip, a decision linked to the infamous “car chase” incident in May 2023. On that occasion, paparazzi relentlessly pursued Harry, Meghan, and her mother for over two hours after an event at the Ziegfeld Theatre, nearly causing several collisions with other vehicles, pedestrians, and NYPD officers. Although no charges were filed, the NYPD later confirmed the dangerous nature of the chase in a letter filed in a UK court regarding Harry’s security arrangements.
Following this incident, the NYPD’s intelligence chief wrote to London’s Metropolitan Police, indicating that the department would enhance security measures for the Duke and Duchess during future visits to the city. Notably, the additional security for Harry will be funded by state taxpayers.
Harry’s trip to New York will also coincide with Prince William’s Earthshot Prize event, which is scheduled to take place at the Plaza Hotel on September 24. The Earthshot Prize is a prestigious environmental award recognizing five individuals for their exceptional contributions to the environment. The timing of both brothers’ visits to New York has sparked speculation among royal watchers about the possibility of a reconciliation if they happen to be in the city simultaneously.
